A nice menu and an excellent wine selection make Sheila's a welcome oasis in an otherwise barren landscape of ho-hum establishments in the Camarillo area.
For starters, try the spinach salad with feta topped with salmon, simple yet wonderful. The classic Caesar is great, too. Crab cakes could be more big-lump crabmeat and less breading, but hey, I'm an easterner used to broiled blue claw Maryland beauties. They still are worth ordering, however, for you crab lovers.
Chef Gael prepares American cuisine with a French flair, and Chef Jeff mixes it up, too, with his favorites such as Jambalaya. Steaks are excellent, and Sheila's has a whole menu dedicated to Kobe beef. Specials like veal chops can be a treat, especially with one of the chef's french inspired sauces.
The wine selection is quite extensive, and there is something to please even the most discriminating palate. Ask any of the staff for suggestions navigating the many choices.
Friday and Saturday entertainment is a welcome addition to the "nightlife" of Camarillo. In fact, Sheila's is probably the only place to consistently hear live music on the weekend in this sleepy town. And you won't be dissapointed if you like sophisticated jazz with your glass of Cabernet, as the musicians are top-notch.
Service can be a little slow, so plan to make it a long, relaxed evening, and it would be nice to have a natural fire in the almost-fireplace. But with the lack of up-scale bar/restaurants in the area why not just enjoy the exceptional food, cuisine, and entertainment? This is a welcome addition to Camarillo. Just don't tell anyone. I still like to get in without a reservation. |
