Casa Alde Cafe, also known as Helen's,is owned by 81 year old Helen Alcala. She get to the cafe at 3:30 in the morning to make fresh flour tortillas. On Saturday mornings, they run out of tortillas and customer wait for around for 30 to 45 minutes for the fresh tortillas to come off the grills. Her breakfast tacos are a meal in a tortilla. The carne guisada is the best. The local high school kids, from Hays High School,have their own favorites, the "fatty" and the "same". |
